Some may see MELANCHOLIA as cataclysmal, apocalyptic, and an absolute obliteration, but as we always say here at VEDOME, TAKE A CLOSER LOOK…
The Collision: The MELANCHOLIA design symbolizes two worlds becoming one. It stands for unison, amalgamation, and the emergence of a new. Although, on the surface it conveys chaos and destruction, beyond the rubble and havoc there lies pulchritude and neonatal beginnings. My thought process while creating MELANCHOLIA was distraught and in disarray. My inspiration derived from Lars Von Trier’s cinematic masterpiece, Melancholia, and a mathematical simulation of what it would be like if two planets crashed into each other. I saw a different meaning than what both of my inspirations depicted. Where there was destruction, I saw reparation. Where there was annihilation, I saw creation. When it seemed to be the end, I saw a new beginning.
The perspective:
Just as the planets collide, so do we humans. We are our own worlds. When we collide with one another, it is awe striking. It is a vicious cycle of ardent emotions ranging from infatuation to detestation. Our collision, at first glance, can seem disheveled, but once the storm settles, into the serenity, bares the fruit of a new beginning. Now we are living in an era where we have been apart for so long. It seems, with a desperate urgency, it’s time we all started to collide again.
No matter how chaotic of a collision, always remember, THERE’S BEAUTY WITHIN THE CHAOS.
